ABOUT
Dayan (1995) is a painter born in Belgium, with Congolese and Czech ancestry. She is currently based in Europe. She learned, since she was a child, to paint on her own with references such as Kusama, Hockney, Basquiat, Nneji, among others.
After studying anthropology and gender issues, Dayan decided to create works that go beyond aesthetics to provoke a social and cultural reflection. She focuses on issues such as gender inequalities, racism and the sexualization of bodies:
She focuses her attention on the representation of women to illustrate her own experience defined by this gender, reminding us that we have not yet achieved full equity in our society and that we must continue to fight for it. Also, she incorporates vibrant colors in the depiction of bodies, seeking to celebrate the intrinsic diversity of humanity by rejecting the idea of unique skin tones. And, her frequent choice to depict naked bodies seeks to change the common perception, encouraging an alternative view of the body away from sexualization. Dayan aspires to restore the body to its essential nature, breaking stereotypes and inviting the viewer to contemplate raw, authentic beauty.
